How much does a heat pump cost in Hampshire in 2026?
A typical air source heat pump install in Hampshire costs £10,000–£14,000 fully fitted before the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £7,500 BUS grant brings this down to a net cost of £2,500–£6,500. The exact figure depends on heat pump size, cylinder size, and how many radiators need upgrading.
Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme still available in 2026?
Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides £7,500 towards an air source heat pump or £7,500 towards a ground source heat pump in England and Wales as of 2026. It's claimed by your MCS-certified installer on your behalf and deducted from your final invoice. You don't need to fill in any forms.
Will a heat pump save me money in Hampshire?
Depends on your current heating fuel and insulation. On oil, LPG or electric — significant savings (£800–£1,500/year). On mains gas with poor insulation — savings are smaller and payback can be 10–15 years without solar PV to offset running costs.
How noisy is a heat pump?
Modern heat pumps from Vaillant, Mitsubishi, Daikin and Samsung operate at 38–45 dB measured at 1 metre — about the same as a quiet fridge. Quieter than a domestic boiler. The MCS Planning Standard requires under 42 dB at the nearest assessable position of a neighbour's property, which we design for as standard.
Do I need to replace my radiators?
Sometimes, but rarely all of them. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures (45–50°C) than boilers (65–75°C), so radiators need to be sized to deliver the same heat at a lower temperature. A proper heat loss survey identifies which rooms need bigger radiators. In a typical Hampshire home, 30–50% of radiators usually need upgrading.
Can I have a heat pump with my existing cylinder?
Usually not. Heat pumps need a larger, lower-temperature cylinder than typical boiler-fed systems. Most installs include a new 200L–300L unvented cylinder costing £900–£1,400, included in the system price we quote.
How long does the installation take?
Typically 3–5 days on site, depending on system size and radiator upgrades. Survey to commissioning is usually 4–6 weeks total — the actual install is the fast bit, the heat loss survey and design work take a few weeks beforehand.
Will it work in winter?
Yes. Air source heat pumps work down to around -15°C ambient. A properly designed system in Hampshire will heat your home comfortably year-round. Real-world efficiency (COP) drops in colder weather but the system is sized to cope.
