EV charger installation FAQ

How long does EV charger installation take?
A standard install in Hampshire takes between 3 and 6 hours from arrival to commissioning. Simple installs where the charger sits next to the consumer unit can be done in half a day. Longer cable runs or consumer unit upgrades add a few hours. We always confirm the realistic timeline at quote stage.
Do I need a 100A supply for an EV charger?
Most UK homes have either an 80A or 100A main fuse, which is plenty for a 7kW EV charger. If your supply is only 60A, or you've got a heat pump and other high-load appliances, smart load management can prevent the need for a supply upgrade. We check this on every quote.
Can I install an EV charger myself?
No. EV charger installation is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations and must be carried out by a registered electrician (NAPIT, NICEIC or similar). DIY installation will invalidate your home insurance and create headaches when you sell the house.
What is the best EV charger for solar panels?
The MyEnergi Zappi v2.1 is the benchmark for solar PV integration — it detects surplus solar generation and diverts it to your car rather than exporting to the grid at a low rate. The Ohme Home Pro offers a similar feature at a lower price. If you've got solar or plan to add it, one of these is what you want.
How much does a Tesla Wall Connector cost installed?
A Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 installed in Hampshire is typically £1,100–£1,500 fully fitted, including the unit (around £495), installation, certification and earth protection. The Wall Connector is Tesla-only and doesn't have a smart tariff app — most Tesla owners actually prefer a Zappi or Ohme even with a Tesla.
Are EV charger grants still available in 2026?
The OZEV EV chargepoint grant of up to £350 is still available in 2026 for renters and people living in flats. Homeowners in houses are no longer eligible. Some local authorities run their own additional schemes — worth checking with Hampshire County Council.
Do you cover my area?
We cover Fareham, Whiteley, Gosport, Stubbington, Southampton, Hedge End, Locks Heath, Titchfield, Portchester, Wickham, Bishops Waltham, Eastleigh, Chandlers Ford, Winchester, Hamble, Bursledon, Lee-on-Solent and Hill Head as standard. If you're elsewhere in Hampshire or South England, give us a call — we travel further for the right job.
How quickly can you book me in?
Most weeks we can fit a new install within 5–10 working days of accepting the quote. If you need it urgently for a new car arriving, let us know — we'll do our best.
